Let’s see, yesterday Mom, Imo and I went shopping in Dongdaemun market. We took the subway to get there, which is pretty easy to use. I actually made a transaction all on my own! I bought a 5 dollar pair of pants, that are funny looking but I think will be comfortable. It rained on us quite a bit outside, but most of the market is inside, so it wasn’t so bad. I also got a couple korean style blankets that are really cool in the summer. They are made from the bark of a tree and the weave is similar to seersucker. I am looking forward to using them when we get home.
We then took the subway to Chogin Imo’s house. I really enjoyed meeting her and Imobu. She is so loving and beautiful. Imobu is still recovering from his latest bout with cancer, but is doing well. Got up early again today, around 6 am this time. We got ready to go to Waesumchin’s home, but first we were going to Nanta! This is a broadway show that originated here in Seoul. It is called Cookin’ in the states and was awesome.
We had to bring our carry on baggage since we were going straight from Nanta to the train station to head down south to Jecheon. We were running late and we accidently left one of the shopping bags full of Mom’s things in the station. We are just sick about it. 4 people couldn’t keep up with all the bags.
The train ride was very pleasant except for remembering the left bag 45 minutes into the ride. It took 2 1/2 hours to get to Jecheon. Waesumchin’s home is really nice, fairly new, and reminds me more of an american home than anywhere else we have been. Most everyone is very simple in their possessions, but Sumchin’s boys still live with them, so maybe seems more modern because of this?
We went to dinner at Holmoni’s home. She has lived here since before the Korean war, so the home is old. No indoor plumbing! I decided to hold it until we got back to Sumchin’s home.
Tomorrow we are going to do some siteseeing. We were gonna see a buddist temple but I think the family changed plans on us. At the moment, Mike and I are trying to stay awake till at least 10 pm, but are fading fast.
