We arrived Seoul last night at 9 pm. We made good time coming from Tokyo. We had to use the restroom first, and by the time we got to the lines for immigration, we were the very last ones in the Non-Korean lines (of which there were only 2). After going through immigration, we had to wait forever to catch our 5 checked bags. Then we had to declare our 4 bottles of Jack Daniels we brought as gifts. So by the time we finally got through the doors it was close to 11 pm. Mom, Kunimo and Hyung Nim were frantic because they thought we had already come through. They were 30 minutes late getting to the airport and just couldn’t believe that it had taken us so long to get through immigration! So needless to say, they were extremely relieved when they saw us walk through the doors.
It took us another hour to get to Hyung Nim’s house, where Kunimo yelled for Hyun Hong to come down and help us carry bags. Oh how he has grown! He is taller than me now and 13 years old. SO cute! I am using his computer now to blog. We were able to get a great night’s rest on Hyung Nim and Ajuboni’s bed and I woke up with the dawn, knowing that today is the day I get to meet my baby. I haven’t slept since.
It is soooo hot and humid, my hair looks very rough. I took a shower just now in the modified bathroom. The shower consisted of a giant bowl of water and a tap, pouring the water over myself to rinse between washings. The water drains in the floor. Surprisingly I feel clean and refreshed despite the rivulets of sweat dripping from my body.
I called Chi-Ah today. It was wonderful talking to her and getting her perspective on first time motherhood. They are making a fairly smooth transition and I hope we get to meet them this week. She said I should be glad it has cooled off! ha!
I will write more when I get a chance. Maybe using the Eastern computers after our meeting with Ryan.
